LOS ANGELES -- Collectible card games have been around for years with the godfather being Magic: The Gathering, which came out in 1993.
Now, action sports, which targets the same demographic, has gotten into gaming with the release of SuperHeat's Skateboarding Trading Card Game in May.

"We wanted to educate and entertain the kids about skateboarding," said Robert Reynolds, chief executive officer for SuperHeat. "Action sports is one of the fastest growing youth segments in the United States and we wanted to capitalize on that."
The rules are pretty simple:
1. Each skater has a pro card and each pro card has an ability and three paths.

2. The first player plays all the cards in his hand to create a run. Throw-down cards can be played at this time also. The second player takes his turn after the first player draws his next hand.
3. At the end of each turn, players can either choose to end their heat early and stand on the score, or can draw more cards and keep going.
The company has signed licensing deals with more than 50 athletes for their cards, from Bob Burnquist to Bucky Lasek to Greg Lutzka.
"When I heard that I was going to be on these trading cards, I was really stoked," Lutzka said. "This game is something that is needed. And I got the chance to send in my photo for the card. I love seeing myself in these cards!"
