Josh Duhamel is fighting a cold. He also has bad knees and a sore back.
That's what you get when you star in the physical "Transformer" movies and are married to workout fiend Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson.
But the trouper that he is, the 38-year-old one-time model and now highly successful actor made the trip from Los Angeles to the East Coast to talk about his venture with Reebok promoting a new running shoe called RealFlex.
"I've always loved running, and I do a lot of charity work which involves running, so I felt it was a natural fit to work with Reebok," said Duhamel, who grew up in North Dakota and whose mother was a physical education teacher. "She was a health nut. She was so fanatic about fitness and nutrition that it became ingrained in me. Now, it's not about getting all buffed up and looking good. It's more about staying healthy and flexible."
And Duhamel is using his athleticism to benefit others. Last year, Duhamel, along with the Red Cross, had a charity running event to benefit Haiti Earthquake Relief. Less than three weeks ago, he hosted a charity run to benefit the American Red Cross' relief efforts in Japan following the tsunami and earthquake there.
"I like to get my hands dirty in these kinds of projects, not just talk about it," said Duhamel, whose "Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon" movie opens July 1. "We've raised a lot of money and I want kids to become more active."
Since we had Duhamel for a few minutes, we asked his thoughts on ABC on Thursday canceling "One Life to Live" and "All My Children," where Duhamel got his start in acting by playing the role of Leo du Pres.
"I loved being on that show. I still stay in touch with a lot of people. It's something that is unfortunate," he said. "That's what's going on in the entertainment world. It's just cheaper to produce reality TV. It was a sad day for me when I heard the news."
