Suryakumar, middle order put Mumbai in control

Rest of India 36 for 1 (Fazal 18*, Yadav 1*) trail Mumbai 603 (Suryakumar 156, Bista 104, Jayant 4-132) by 567 runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Each of Mumbai's top-six batsmen made a fifty-plus score as the 41-time Ranji Trophy champions piled up runs and misery on Rest of India. Suryakumar Yadav followed Jay Bista as the second centurion of the innings, his 156 launching Mumbai to 603, their second 500-plus total in Irani Cup history.

Resuming on an overnight 386 for 3, Mumbai, having seen off the new ball, added 87 in the first session. Suryakumar brought up his tenth first-class century off 154 balls, with support from captain Aditya Tare who made 65 before he edged behind to his opposite number, Naman Ojha.

Siddhesh Lad, who had made a counterattacking 88 in the Ranji Trophy final, took over from Tare and hit a fifty of his own. Suryakumar went on to pass 150, but soon after popped a return catch to offspinner Jayant Yadav. Lad, though, cranked up the tempo with three fours off a Jaydev Unadkat over, but the seamer hit back in his next over to have Lad caught behind for 66. His effort could have been restricted to 35 had substitute Shahbaz Nadeem hung onto a catch at backward point. Iqbal Abdulla and Shardul Thakur then had their share of fun before Mumbai were eventually dismissed for 603 in the 159th over.

Jayant, who wheeled away for 41.2 overs, finished with four wickets while Unadkat and Krishna Das picked up two wickets apiece.

In reply, Rest of India openers put on 29 before Srikar Bharat slashed a short and wide Abhishek Nayar offering to backward point. Faiz Fazal and nightwatchman Yadav then saw the side through to stumps without additional loss.
