Monday's apt headline on the Wimbledon men's singles final in London's free Metro commuter newspaper: "Novak Closes the Gap in Record Time." The 13-12 fifth set of Djokovic's unprecedented 4:57 victory over Roger Federer lasted 122 minutes, featured the first title-deciding tiebreaker under the tournament's new rule and gave the Serbian career major # 16 — two behind Rafael Nadal and four back of Federer's record 20.

Serena Williams, on the men's Big 3: "It's a fantastic story, really, to have those three guys just basically dominating in the same era. You wouldn't think that could happen in sport, and it's happened...the battles they have against each other are really fantastic." On #1 seed Novak Djokovic, she added, "To see how relaxed he is, how confident he is, it just exudes from him, which is something that's truly remarkable." On #2 Roger Federer: "I'm every day amazed at what he can do, the magic he produces on the court." Add in #3 Rafael Nadal and Williams says, "They all are incredibly remarkable. It's really great to play in the same time that these three...best players to ever exist, in this era, to be a part of that is really cool."

After her longest run at a major ended Tue., Alison Riske, 29, discussed Coco Gauff, 15. "I love Coco," said Riske. "I also really love her family. I think she's surrounded by some really cool people. I feel like ultimately she has an amazing head on her shoulders. She seems mature way past her years. I think that's an incredible sign of what's to come for her." Riske, who lost a tough 3-set QF to Serena Williams, added: "Her parents seem awesome. They seem to really keep her grounded, which I think is really special. I think we're just seeing the beginning of Coco Gauff."

On Kawhi Leonard, Canadian Milos Raonic said after his 2nd round Wimbledon win Wed.: "He did a lot of great things for the team, for everybody that's a basketball fan in Toronto and in Canada and especially as a Raptors fan. I really hope he stays. And there's a lot of guys that have already committed. There is not really much left to pick up for either team, so I hope he's leaving L.A. with scraps after and coming back to Toronto." The former Wimbledon finalist added, still smiling: "I don't think anybody has any special insights when it comes to him." And he said losing Leonard would likely drop the Raptors from being the favorite in the East, to a solid playoff team.

He's the last non-Big 3 men's major champ & when we asked him Mon. about the current Federer-Nadal-Djokovic 10-major streak, Stan Wawrinka said, "For me, it's been 15 years that they're dominating, (that) they are here at the top of the sport. What I think is the same as everybody: they are basically the best players right now, but also, they are the three best players in the history of tennis, playing in the same time together. That means they didn't leave so much for the other players to take." Wawrinka, whose 2016 US Open title was his third at a major, added, "it's just amazing...this shows how much better they are than everybody else."
