A blunder with his passport has ruled Frank Halai out of representing New Zealand in the Sevens at the Commonwealth Games later this year.
Halai was not named in the training squad despite having represented New Zealand in Sevens for several years. Local media reported the reason was that Halai failed to switch his Tongan passport for a New Zealand one at the beginning of the year, ruling him out of being eligible for the tournament.
Halai, who won his first and, to date, only All Black cap last November, has admitted that the mistake was his fault and that there was no one else to blame.
