RFU get behind England youngsters

Derek Morgan, President of the Rugby Football Union, and the Council of the sport's governing body, will support England as they launch their assault on the IRB Under 21s Rugby World Cup on Friday.

The RFU council, which is made up of county representatives from across the country, have rescheduled a meeting in London to Oxford in order to lend their support to England as they kick-off their world cup campaign against second seeds Australia at Iffley Road (kick-off) 7pm.

England are seeded sixth for the global tournament and face tough games against Australia, Japan and France in the opening stages of the tournament.

Paul Murphy, the RFU council representative for Oxfordshire, said "Meetings of the full RFU Council outside of central London are rare as London is the most convenient venue for representatives to travel to.

"However, I believe it is an inspired initiative by the RFU's President to choose Oxford as the meeting venue.

"Oxfordshire RFU are pleased to have the presence of the Council in the county and their support at England's first game in the Under 21s Rugby World Cup will be invaluable.

"I am sure the success of this arrangement could lead to other similar opportunities for the Council to combine RFU business and playing support across the country."

The IRB Under 21s Rugby World Cup, which is being hosted by the RFU, gets underway on Friday 13 June and will culminate in the final being held at Oxford's Kassam Stadium on June 29th.

Oxford's Kassam Stadium and Iffley Road as well as Henley RFC and Newbury's Monks Lane ground are the venues hosting the 12-team tournament.
