Dragon NFX goggles

Dragon's NFX goggle features include a high-impact lens and armored venting. Dragon Alliance

For the past few years, Dragon riders and engineers have worked diligently to create a motocross goggle that would genuinely improve a rider's performance. The mission for the NFX goggle was to utilize their patented frameless technology to improve rider performance and increase peripheral vision while on the track.

Mission accomplished.

Since its release in October, the response to the goggle has been overwhelming, leaving other goggles companies scrambling to come up with an answer to the latest Dragon offering. Although other companies may try … it will be tough to match a goggle that boasts patented frameless technology, armored venting, four-layer slant foam sweat absorption, a flexible single lexan lens that is anti-fog treated [AFT], 100 percent UV protection, lens mounted posts for tear-offs, the ability to hold up to 28 laminated tear-offs, a 2-inch silicon beaded strap, hypoallergenic micro-fleece lining, and a removable rock guard.

Being pleasantly surprised after throwing on a pair for myself, we decided to hit up Dragon's director of product Mike Tobia to get the inside scoop on the goggle that has changed the game.

ESPN.com: Mike, first of all, let me double check, just in case the readers don't believe us … Dragon has a frameless motocross goggle?
Tobia:
You are correct. It's called the NFX and it's the first fully "frameless" goggle with patented technology.

Without giving away any secrets, help us understand the design a behind frameless goggle?
Our patents are built around the bracket system that adheres the lens to frame. This allows for maximum peripheral [vision] and quick lens interchangeability. It literally only takes seconds to change lenses and the peripheral view is unreal.

You have already released the snow version of this goggle, how was the feedback from the APX snow's initial launch?
To be honest, it's changed the game not only for Dragon but the entire goggle industry. Our retailers are saying it's the best-selling goggle and our athletes are saying it is the best goggle they've ever worn. We pretty much knew instantly we had to make an MX version …

Is the moto goggle just another version on the APX snow goggle?
No, the APX has a snow specific injected polycarbonate dual lens while the NFX has a cylindrical single lens. It also has quad layer slant foam with sweat absorption and a removable nose guard.

Why even design frameless goggles?
Because that's what we do! We're here to make the best goggles in the world and set the bar for premium eyewear. 2013 will mark our 20th anniversary and we're just getting warmed up.

How has the feedback from the pros been?
Very positive, they've wanted to race in the goggles the moment our first prototype came out.

Will there be a roll-off system available for the model?
Every NFX goggle comes with a bonus clear lens and both tear-offs and roll-off systems are available for the goggle as well.

For this initial release, how many color ways can we look forward to?
Ten, including the Vox Black/White, Overlap, Flair Yellow/Gray, Bullets, Fade Orange, Jet Red Split, Green/Black Split, Red/Black Split, Blue/ Black Split, and of course … our collaboration with Rockstar Energy.

Where and how much can the public pick up the goggle for?
The goggle retails for $100 MSRP. If it's not at your local dealer, contact Western Power Sports and they'll get you taken care of.
