And that wraps up the match and the year, for England. They'll be back out to India for five ODIs in January, though India won't be able to rest, as Pakistan are rocking up almost immediately to fill the gap. Thanks for your comments and your company, it's been a topsy-turvy 2012 - from Alex and me, Merry Christmas and we'll see you again in a couple of weeks. Cheerio!
10.55pm: Back out we go for the presentations... Eoin Morgan is named Man of the Match. There's a polite ripple from the crowd, which becomes a bit more lively when Yuvraj Singh is named Man of the Series: "I tried to do it for the team, bowl a few overs, vary my pace and try to confuse them. It's tough to bowl with the dew, the ball comes quicker on to the bat and runs away. Morgan is a great finisher for England... I've been batting well, hitting the ball well, so that's good for me."
England captain, Morgan: "It was a hell of a game of cricket, a fantastic match and a great pitch for a game of Twenty20. The stats suggest, particularly at this stadium, that the chasing side usually wins and we backed ourselves to do that. It was a good job because we nearly fell short! Fielding was outstanding, we try to save 10-15 runs each time and today we were amazing. It was great, one of the best crowd atmospheres I've ever played in, and we showed great promise for the future."
India captain, MS Dhoni: "The dew really does change the course of the game but we didn't start very well, we were a fraction short. There was something there for the fast bowlers but they were cut and pulled early on. We came back well but couldn't keep it going. We could have got another 10-12 runs at the end of our innings too but overall is was a good performance. The fast bowlers got good experience and exposure to international cricket. They are good prospects for us but we need to back them."
10.45pm: The Wankhede has gone deathly quiet. Morgan ends on 49 not out, a captain's knock and a captain's finish, securing England their record chase in T20 internationals. I did not see that coming, as my innings handover flagged up ... It's not the first time I've been wrong, or the last, I'm sure. India paid the price for some sloppy work in the field again, they were very poor in the first half of the England innings - though, ironically, if Gambhir had put down Patel at the end, they probably would have won, as Buttler's cameo helped put the match on a silver plate for Morgan. It was a tough night for quick bowlers and with combined figures of 1 for 86 from their eight overs, Awana and Dinda really suffered... However you add it up, this is quite a performance from a young England side, who'll be rightly chuffed to have tied the series. The ODIs in January could be really interesting now.
Two to tie (which would bring a super over), three to win. India just want a dot or a single... Here we go. And Dinda loses his footing as he arrives at the crease! We'll have to start again... And now India are having an almighty conflab about setting the field, Dhoni, Raina, Yuvraj all involved. Fine leg is up, looks like there's a gap at deep cover...
A boundary or a couple of twos all England need now...
Another single for England... Dinda is halfway to job done
And so hard did he swing, and so low off the bat did it come, Morgan has cracked the toe and needs a replacement
So, here we go, Dinda the bowler. He's got to be dealing in yorkers...
END OF OVER:19 | 14 Runs | ENG: 169/4 (9 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 8.89, RRR: 9.00)
- Jos Buttler12 (4b)
- Eoin Morgan41 (23b)
- Parvinder Awana4-0-42-0
- Ashok Dinda3-0-33-1
My word... India should have stuck with Patel. England need nine from the final over and they've got the Big Mo running with them
"Patel getting out is actually bad for India as he was doing a very nice job for them but now the dangerous Buttler is here." You're right, Abdul Ahad, but Morgan is the key now
It is going to be Awana bowling the penultimate over...
END OF OVER:18 | 14 Runs 1 Wkt | ENG: 155/4 (23 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 8.61, RRR: 11.50)
- Eoin Morgan39 (21b)
- Jos Buttler0 (0b)
- Ashok Dinda3-0-33-1
- Piyush Chawla4-0-31-0
That wicket brings in Jos Buttler... and England might not mind too much, given his impish skills
SR Patel c Gambhir b Dinda 9 (17m 10b 1x4 0x6) SR: 90
Protection brought into the off side, just a couple of fielders to leg
Dinda it is, with two overs left in his allocation and the Death on his shoulder...
END OF OVER:17 | 7 Runs | ENG: 141/3 (37 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 8.29, RRR: 12.33)
- Samit Patel8 (8b)
- Eoin Morgan26 (17b)
- Piyush Chawla4-0-31-0
- Parvinder Awana3-0-28-0
Chawla held his nerve after that boundary off the first ball... The balance is tipping back towards India, though Dhoni will now have to rely on his quicks, or spring a surprise
