END OF OVER:

  • Angelo Mathews5-0-35-0

You can argue if the tie was the best result in a game which ebbed and flowed. It was a rank bad final delivery from Malinga which gave India a lifeline. That apart, Sri Lanka fielded with intent and purpose. They affected direct hits, though that missed chance against Dhoni will haunt them.

Going back to the 30th over, it was scored as a five-ball over. Did the umpires miss out that one ball? It still is a mystery.

Here's the presentation.

Jayawardene: "When you have MS batting through it was always going to be tough. One ball four to get you back yourself. But 230 probably wasn't enough. We dropped catches and misses run-outs. You always back Malinga to do the job."

Dhoni is the Man of the Match: "I looked to stay till the end. If you have a decent partnership you can stick it out. Malings is very difficult to hit so we were looking to target Mathews. (The last hit) was a bit difficult here, but in India that would have been two bounces and four. When you need 10 or 12 in the last over your heart rate will always be up."

That ends the first ever tie between India and Sri Lanka in one-dayers. Plenty to sort out for both sides. The common link is the batting. Sri Lanka had a mixed day in the field - brilliance interspersed with bloopers.

India's middle order needs to step up. Can't leave it to Captain Cool over and over again.

Jay: "How long will Dhoni continue this approach of devouring so many balls? It is all well and good for him if India win or tie but he puts undue pressure on his partners at the other end. People at the other end should feel aggrieved with Dhoni as they had to take risks and got out because of Dhoni."

With that, we'll take leave of you. Thanks again for joining us. We'll see you again soon. Cheers!

Malinga to Dhoni, 3 runs, a tie! Malinga fires it full and wide and Dhoni reaches out and practically on one leg scoops it over extra cover, Senanayake at sweeper cover cuts it off and parries it to Kulasekara who fires the throw, that gives India enough time to take three, the players check to see if the batsmen ran one run short, but in the end it was all good

Yadav walks in. Dhoni has to deposit this...somewhere. Who says ODIs are dead??

Malinga to Vinay Kumar, OUT, we have a run-out now! Vinay makes room and squirts it out to mid-off and sets off, Mathews under-arms it straight at the stumps and there's no need for the 3rd umpire

Malinga to Dhoni, 1 run, fires it full and quick and Dhoni has a swipe and gets an inside edge onto the pad and the ball lobs to the off side, now Vinay has the strike

Many in the deep

  • Dhoni matter of fact about five-ball over

The five-ball over gave MS Dhoni an opportunity to raise the question that if with so much technology available the officials couldn't ensure the proper counting of balls in an over

  • 'Must be ruthless in finishing games off' - Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene has said that India would be more disappointed with the tie, but he knows his side needs to start winning games

  • Dhoni blocks for four

ESPNcricinfo presents Plays of the Day for the match between India and Sri Lanka in Adelaide

  • Solid Gambhir denied another century

It is impossible not to look at the background. For the second time in two games, Gautam Gambhir laid a platform for India to chase, only to be denied a century

  • Calm Dhoni delivers nerve-shredding tie

The best death-overs bowler in the game went face-to-face against the best finisher in the business with four to defend off the last ball. It was only fair that neither Lasith Malinga nor MS Dhoni ended up on the losing side of that contest
