- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR13.5 and the chirping has worked! Played off the back foot and Mohammad Hafeez takes a superb catch at gully, taking it inches off the turf 36/118.5 GONE! Strauss prods forward without conviction, not moving his feet enough, takes the outside edge and Akmal dives in front of first slip to take a really fine catch. Well bowled Asif. 54/237.6 a huge, huge shout as Umpire Doctrove thinks long and hard about that one, before giving it. Pitches just outside off on yorker length, with Cook bringing his bat down too late. Great bowling, it would have gone on to hit middle, low. In short, that was plumb. 112/618.6 goddim! Golden duck for the golden boy who drives at a full-pitched ball and edges it behind to Akmal. Pakistan are buzzing now 54/322.3 got him this time. Trapped on the backfoot, and Collingwood bends right over his bat in trying to play that one which pitched just outside off, came in and would have hit middle and leg. Darrell Hair didnÂt need long to think about one and thatÂs three wickets for the deserving Asif. 64/430.4 And Kaneria has struck just four balls into his first over. He pitches that one on leg, Bell shapes to defend and his thin inside edge pops up to silly mid-off. Easy catch, as catches go. There's a huge appeal all around and Hair nods before raising the finger to confirm. Good captaincy from Inzamam, that 91/553.1 short and wide, Read tries to cut this through point but drags it on and his stumps are shattered 173/947.5 'goddim. Very full and a sharp delivery which swung back into the right hander before jagging yet further into Mahmood and, ultimately, into his stumps. A swing of the bat but he was comprehensively beaten there 158/750.1 really good outswinger to Hoggard who hangs his bat out, feathering the outside edge and Akmal makes no mistake 163/853.2 GODDIM! Full, straight and swinging back into Monty, the left hander, who is spectacularly bowled. Really fine piece of bowling there 173/10Extras16 (b 4, lb 5, nb 7)TOTAL173 all out (53.2 Overs, RR: 3.24, 258 minutes)Fall of wickets: 1-36 (Marcus Trescothick, 13.5 ov), 2-54 (Andrew Strauss, 18.5 ov), 3-54 (Kevin Pietersen, 18.6 ov), 4-64 (Paul Collingwood, 22.3 ov), 5-91 (Ian Bell, 30.4 ov), 6-112 (Alastair Cook, 37.6 ov), 7-158 (Sajid Mahmood, 47.5 ov), 8-163 (Matthew Hoggard, 50.1 ov), 9-173 (Chris Read, 53.1 ov), 10-173 (Monty Panesar, 53.2 ov)

- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR80.1 and Hoggard strikes with the first ball of a spell yet again! It's a lazy shot, clipped into midwicket area, straight to Strauss. Hafeez has gone for 95 and he'll be disappointed, but it's been a great knock. England have the breakthrough at last 325/331.3 GONE! Very well bowled, Hoggard, enticing the outside edge to Marcus Trescothick who makes no mistake. That's his 94th Test catch. 148/214.4 gone! ThatÂs a huge wicket, strangled down the leg-side, with the finest of edges - in fact, it came off the glove. Mahmood charged in with intent that ball and banged it in short. That's a big breakthrough for England and should pick them up a bit 70/198.6 and what do you know? It's two in two overs! This was the one that went straight on, and a thin graze was comfortably taken by Chris Read behind the stumps. A standing ovation for Yousuf, and quite right too. He has been magnificent all tour. He's made 631 runs at 90.14. That'll do nicely 381/597.5 and there it is! The perfect line and length - finally - from Steve Harmison, and he gets his reward. Good bounce, clatters into the shoulder of the bat, and Strauss at second slip clings onto a flyer at chest-height. A genuine Harmison dismissal, and that's cheered the crowd up. Can he maintain it now? 379/4103.1 ooh, gottim. A good line from Harmison, finds the outside edge and that's a good catch by Collingwood, low and to his right. Finally England are finding their groove with the ball and taking catches in the slips 398/6115.5 this had been coming for a while - and an attempted hook flies up and over to Hoggard at mid-on, who makes no mistake, and that will be tea. 444/7122.4 and there's the payback! Half a stride from Gul to a ball that pitches on the stumps and hits him halfway up. No doubt about the decision and a first wicket for Panesar, who has toiled with little luck in this innings 475/8129.3 there it is! Harmison has the breakthrough, and Marcus Trescothick at first slip has his 95th catch in Test cricket. But it's not one he'll look back on with much fondness - he parried Kaneria's slash, lost sight of the ball as he toppled over, and then somehow found it nestling in his stomach as it bounced off his inner thigh and other flailing limbs. Still, they all count, and Harmison has his third wicket of the day 504/9129.5 short and nasty, and Harmison has fulfilled his brief by mopping up the tail in just five deliveries. Banged into the body, Asif flinched and turned his head, and the ball ballooned off his gloves and into the hands of Alastair Cook at short leg. That is Mohammad Asif's fifth duck in a row, which equals the record of Bob Holland of Australia and Ajit Agarkar 504/10Extras32 (b 4, lb 9, nb 8, w 11)TOTAL504 all out (129.5 Overs, RR: 3.88, 559 minutes)Fall of wickets: 1-70 (Younis Khan, 14.4 ov), 2-148 (Imran Farhat, 31.3 ov), 3-325 (Mohammad Hafeez, 80.1 ov), 4-379 (Inzamam-ul-Haq, 97.5 ov), 5-381 (Mohammad Yousuf, 98.6 ov), 6-398 (Kamran Akmal, 103.1 ov), 7-444 (Shahid Nazir, 115.5 ov), 8-475 (Umar Gul, 122.4 ov), 9-504 (Danish Kaneria, 129.3 ov), 10-504 (Mohammad Asif, 129.5 ov)

- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR2.4 ooh, that was a great piece of bowling. Asif came in wide of the crease to increase the angle across Trescothick who was forced to play - and he sends a thick edge through to the flying Akmal who takes a decent catch. Asif has looked threatening from the off and that wicket wasn't much of a surprise, though it will be a delight to Pakistan. 8/128.1 that's a massive ripper! Reminiscent of Warne to Strauss at Edgbaston last summer - almost landed outside the cut strip and fizzed back so far that Hawkeye says it would have clipped leg. That's immaterial though - Strauss was struck outside the line, so not the best decision. But a hugely deserved wicket for Kaneria. He could get a hat-ful today 115/251.5 and that's the breakthrough! A lovely yorker from Gul, Cook overbalances as he aims to play late through the leg side, and the ball swings just enough to hit him on the toe right in front of off stump. A good gritty innings, full of let-offs it has to be said, but he's given his team a fighting chance of rescuing this game. And who knows what could yet happen, if Pietersen gets stuck in ... 218/364.2 impetuosity killed the cat there. Pietersen lashed at a wide one, which he needn't have done, and sent a huge edge flying straight to a diving Akmal, who did well to hold that low. That will be a great fillip to Pakistan, but Pietersen will be kicking himself for not only getting out short of a century, but for getting out at such a crucial time 277/4Extras26 (b 8, lb 3, nb 10, pen 5)TOTAL298/4 (72 Overs, RR: 4.13, 312 minutes)Fall of wickets: 1-8 (Marcus Trescothick, 2.4 ov), 2-115 (Andrew Strauss, 28.1 ov), 3-218 (Alastair Cook, 51.5 ov), 4-277 (Kevin Pietersen, 64.2 ov)

- Pakistan refused to come out after the tea interval, leading to the umpires awarding the match to England 20 minutes later. Despite Pakistan later being willing to play, the umpires insisted the result must stand. This was confirmed by the respective boards later that night at 10pm.
- The match was originally awarded to England. This result was amended to an abandonment by the ICC in July 2008 although the change was disputed by the MCC, the custodians of the Laws of Cricket. In January 2009 the ICC voted to reverse their earlier decision and allow the original awarding of the Test to England to stand.
