So that is it from me, Suneer Chowdhary, for the night, I will be back with you tomorrow for the two matches. Hope you had a good evening following our commentary!

Presentation:

Gautam Gambhir: Look, it was just one of the days when things go right, the way the pair of Kallis and McCullum batted was simply superb. And then we bowled well as well. If the team batting first can get to 190, it just shows that the wicket was really good. Credit to the entire team the way they played. (Pommie Mbwanga, hosting the presentation, points out that Gambhir was being too modest)

Daniel Vettori: We can always look back at the dropped catches but you also look back at the innings Gambhir played and doff your hats off. We now go home for a week, two vital games coming up and will want to win those two matches.

Gambhir is the man of the match as expected.

An excellent innings of 93 from Gautam Gambhir helped Kolkata through to 190 on a supposedly slow track. There were quick 40s from Brendon McCullum and Jacques Kallis too. On the other hand, Gayle got 86, but there were no 40s from the others. In fact, no-one else crossed 20 for Bangalore and in the end, that proved to be the difference to go with the fact that Kolkata bowled brilliantly.

Shukla to Vinay Kumar, no run, short, bouncer and the batsman allows it go through, wide not called and Kolkata have won with some ease here.

W
Shukla to Gayle, OUT, edged and it has been given out, caught behind. Outside the off-stump and Gayle wanted to go for the drive, takes the edge and McCullum takes a good catch.

Bhatia to Gayle, SIX, and that is the third six of the over! Power hitting as you would expect as well, and I think Bhatia tried to push the ball up to the bat this over, instead of the short of good length he was bowling.

6
Bhatia to Gayle, SIX, and that has been deposited again into the long-on crowds. Wonder where were those shots earlier?
18.4
4
Bhatia to Gayle, FOUR, full-toss and the sleeping giant has woken up finally. Drilled through the covers for a four.
18.3

Bhatia to Gayle, SIX, That is a Gayle special, needed one hand to swing it over long-on for a six. That really went deep into the crowd.

END OF OVER:
18 | 4 Runs 1 Wkt | RCB: 115/5 (76 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 6.38, RRR: 38.00)

  • Chris Gayle60 (49b)
  • Sunil Narine4-0-11-1
  • Jacques Kallis4-0-31-2

Narine's gone for 11 in his four overs. That is the most economic this year in a four-over spell, equalling Umesh Yadav's record.

17.6
1
Narine to Vettori, 1 run, Vettori tried to play it inside out, Narine slowed it down and he could only manage to chip it away to the off side.

Narine to Vettori, 1 run, slog swept away by the captain to deep mid-wicket for a single. It is over 30 now.

Narine to Agarwal, OUT, bowled him! Gone off a quicker one. He was on the back-foot after seeing it was a shorter one but yet again, he fails to read which way was it going to turn and it goes through his defences.

Kallis to Gayle, 1 run, shorter from Kallis and that is short too, tries to pull it away but can get it only to square-leg for a single. Gayle's only jogging now, is there some fitness issue?
16.5
4
Kallis to Gayle, FOUR, and suddenly a poor ball, and even poorer keeping. Down the leg side, gets a feather, on the bounce to the keeper who misses it.
16.4
0
Kallis to Gayle, no run, and now he goes on to the back foot by clearing his foot, in attempt to hit it over long-on. Excellent bowling after the first two fours.
16.3

Kallis to Gayle, no run, goes down the track, Kallis slows it down, pulls the length up and Gayle has a swing at it. Misses.
16.2
4
Kallis to Gayle, FOUR, slower on the pads and the rather languid Gayle has flicked it away to the leg-side for a four. Half-century for Gayle. Can he smack all of them to the boundary?
