So thats the end of that. Deccan win their second, Bangalore lose their second. Gilchrist is all smiles as he slaps hands with his team-mates. Deccan look a good unit. Bangalore look lost. Fireworks go off at Newlands as the players do the formality - shake hands, "cheers, mate, hard luck", etc - before filing off.

Dravid says Bangalore lost the match in the first six overs of their chase. He liked the pitch better than the one they played on over the weekend. He doesn't mind his own form, saying he would gladly hand the orange cap over to someone else if it means Bangalore win more often.

RP has the purple cap and immediately says he likes bowling in South Africa. Thanks Gibbs and his fielders. He bowled really well under lights.

We'll have the post-match stuff for you shortly. Remember, you can enjoy Cricinfo's service on any mobile phone from basic to high end witth Snaptu. Snap to it!

Mark Nicholas is bellowing something down where the crowd is. Rattles off the names of the stiffs in suits who will present the post-match awards. Rohit gets paid for his five sixes, Gilchrist is also included.

First up is KP: "We let ourselves down at the start with the bat. When Gilchrist and Hayden strike the ball like that there's not much you can do. We need to do better in the first six overs, then we'll be okay. We have to sort that out before Durban."

Up comes Gilchrist, the winning captain. He signs the match ball and gifts it to a fan. Gilchrist is Man of the Match for his sparkling 71, his fielding and his captaincy. "Started well today. Felt a bit scratchy in the first game. The work the boys have put in as shown. Rohit has been pretty good for India in ODIs and Twenty20s and he's taken on the vice-captaincy role well. He wants to be a leader. Spinners have also proven effective, particularly here at Newlands. Ojha has been fantastic for us. We're happy."

So thats it from us. There are two games tomorrow so do come back for those. Until next time, cheers!

Singh to Kumar, 1 run, hah, he's hurt RP! Pitched up full, PK gets up on one leg and plays a Dhoni shot, flat and rocketed back to the bowler, who drives to stop it and ends up wincing in pain ... his reaction cannot be published on this site, sorry

Okay now .. UP player to UP player ... friendly fire?

Singh to Kohli, no run, superb slower ball, full in the slot and Kohli just pats it back to RP

Right. Six balls to go. Bangalore need 29. Kohli to face RP Singh.

  • Gilchrist lends weight to opening statements

The wisdom ahead of this tournament as experts tried to compare and contrast Indian conditions with those in South Africa was that the new ball was going to be crucial. It has indeed been crucial, but just not in the way people expected
