The crackers are still going off at the DY Patil stadium, a crestfallen Mumbai walk out to shake hands with the winners.
Murali: "This is an amazing win, Raina was special, it's a special occasion, we are going to party a lot. The strategy of using plenty of spinners worked for us."
Questions will have to be asked about the Mumbai batting order, why was Pollard kept for so late, why push up Harbhajan when the youngsters Tiwary and Rayudu have been doing so well through the tournament.
The fielding was also a big differentiator: Mumbai dropped two sitters off the highest scorer in the match, Suresh Raina, while Chennai hung on to some superb catches like the ones to get rid of Tiwary and Duminy.
Bollinger: "It was a really good game, lot of runs, lot of wickets, good crowd. We though 140 would be par, but then Raina and Dhoni got going."
Hayden: "What a day. From the start, the opening ceremony. The entire eight weeks has been phenomenal, this tournament is going to go from strength to strength. I think Raina's star is going to burn for a long time. "
Venkat from India offers this explanation for holding back Pollard: "For those of you who are wondering why Pollard was not sent earlier, the answer is, he is not a good player of spin bowling and hence MI held him back till the spinners are gone. It's proved too late though."
Presentation ceremony: Lalit Modi gives what seems to be a farewell speech. He says he's happy his dream of a world-class sports league in India has come true, before proclaiming that the IPL is clean and transparent. He says all decisions have been taken by the governing council as a whole, and not by him alone and that all charges against him are based on innuendos.
He signs off by thanking everyone he can think of in Oscar-winner style. His speech comes in the backdrop of news that he is going to be suspended by the BCCI shortly.
Suresh Raina is the Man of the Match: "Our staff have put in lot of hard work. I'm really happy for the team. It's been a great year for us." He picks 'fantastic' as the one word to sum up the day.
Sourabh Tiwary is the Under-23 success of the tournament, for his 419 runs and three half-centuries.
Chennai win the Kingfisher Fairplay award, Sachin Tendulkar is presented with the Orange Cap by Nita Ambani for being the leading run-scorer in the league phase. The Purple Cap is given to Pragyan Ojha by the owner of Deccan Chargers.
Sachin Tendulkar is named the DLF golden player, which I think is the Man of the Series award. He also collects a cheque for Rs 3 crores for Mumbai being the runners-up.
Tendulkar: "A couple of important catches cost us, the start also.. we could have accelerated a little bit more, it was just one of those tough days, I want to thank all the Mumbai Indians supporters. Towards the end, Pollard came and it was a bit too late. It's been a terrific journey, it's been an honour to be part of the Mumbai Indians, the support staff has also been tremendous. It's been a special tournament for us, barring today. Most likely I'll be playing next year as well. Chennai played better than us today, congratulations to them."
Dhoni: "Credit goes to the team, we were under pressure in the middle of he tournament, excited to lift the trophy today. We were happy with the total, the Mumbai wicket supports the seamers and Bollinger did well early, Ashwin has been doing a superb job with new ball. We were able to create the kind of pressure to get wickets. The IPL gets better and better, the benchmark keeps rising each year. The players will sweat more because of extra teams next year, the pressure will be on the office-bearers to make it further big."
The Chennai players get on stage to collect commemorative bats, and Dhoni finally collects the cheque for six crores from Lalit Modi, before getting his hands on the IPL trophy. The confetti machine does its job, there are firecrackers going off in the background, the Chennai team can't stop grinning.
That's it from us at Cricinfo for the IPL, and that's it for the cricketing action from the IPL. The off-field controversy still rages, though, with the latest news being that the BCCI has sent Modi a suspension order.
Hope you've enjoyed our coverage of the IPL, and if you haven't had your fix of Twenty20 cricket yet, the World Twenty20 starts in five days time in the Caribbean. See you then. Good night.
