ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals released left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth on Thursday.
Maroth went 0-5 with a 10.66 ERA in 14 appearances. He also spent time on the disabled list with elbow injuries.
In June, the Cardinals acquired him from Detroit for cash and a player to be named later to plug a hole in an injury-plagued pitching staff.
That player turned out to be Chris Lambert, the Cardinals' first-round pick in 2004.
Maroth, now a free agent, is 50-67 with a 5.05 ERA in his career.
