The world's most weird and wonderful soccer kits of 2026-27

ESPN

In what must surely be the only list in which Borussia Dortmund will ever rub shoulders with Carlisle United, we have gathered together an array of the wildest football kits released by clubs all around the world for the 2026-27 season.

The result is a curious collection of weird and/or wonderful home, away and third jerseys in all colors of the rainbow (as well as some colors that might not actually feature on the known spectrum.) The shirts draw inspiration from diverse subject matter -- from vintage aircraft, to European agriculture, to the forests of northern Italy, and even the electrical storms that flash over the deserts of Arizona.

Given the pure intensity of some of the outrageous kits on offer here, we suggest you should consider wearing some kind of eye protection, just to prevent your retinas from suffering any permanent damage.

It turns out there are levels of neon pink that we never knew existed ...

Borussia Dortmund third kit (Puma)

With what we suspect must surely be the purple-est shade of purple ever purpled, Dortmund have created a new third shirt that is likely visible from near-Earth orbit. As if it were in any doubt, the German club then went and applied the trim in ultra-fluorescent yellow just to really make the whole thing pop.

Carlisle United away kit (Macron)

Relishing the chance to try something a little bit esoteric with their new away kit, Carlisle settled on an utterly putrid pink strip covered in black blotches that unfortunately brings to mind some kind of awful volatile chemical spillage. It makes the purple goalkeeper kit almost palatable. Almost ...

Aldosivi third kit (Kappa)

Presumably inspired by the serene turquoise waters of the Atlantic coast around Buenos Aires, Argentine club Aldosivi released a third kit which treads the finest of lines between footballing haute-couture and something that has been accidentally dropped in an oily puddle on the quayside.

Club Atlético Morelia away kit (Keuka)

Mexican second-tier side Morelia have really gone all-out with their new away kit, which apparently saw them task their designers with producing a shirt that has every square inch covered in what we can only describe as a visual interpretation of a chronic migraine.

Deportivo Municipal third kit (EOO Sports)

Desperately needing to raise funds to keep their club going, Peruvian lower-league side Deportivo Municipal came up with a rather ingenious viral campaign to attract 1,000 new kit sponsors. The result is this rather astounding checkerboard jersey, complete with the logos of all those who donated to the cause.

FC Cologne third kit (Adidas)

While we don't truly believe that Cologne's new third kit is directly inspired by a popular flavor of ice cream, we simply can't overlook the fact that the navy shirt appears to have a distinct raspberry ripple effect running across the front of it.

FC Tucson home kit

Nicknamed "the Monsoon kit," the highly-charged purple shirt is inspired by the electrical storms that periodically form in the skies over Tucson, Arizona, and the Sonoran Desert that surrounds it -- which, as it happens, makes for an incredibly dramatic, almost cinematic football shirt design.

Hanwell Town FC third kit (VX3)

English lower-league club Hanwell Town successfully scored a high-profile collaboration for their new kits in the unlikely guise of the "Rocky Horror Show." The result is this fittingly bizarre shirt that features a smattering of images and slogans from the musical plastered all over it.

Küçükçekmece Sinopspor third kit (Hummel)

Turkish fourth-tier side Küçükçekmece opted for a very literal approach to making their new third kit stand out by plonking a gigantic lighthouse on the front of it. Having finished in the playoff positions last season, the club will no doubt be hoping that their lucky beacon can help guide them to automatic promotion this time around.

NK Lokomotiva Zagreb (Macron)

Both of Lokomotiva's new home and away kits share a distinctive railway theme, which perhaps shouldn't come as much of a surprise given that the Croatian side were initially formed by Zagreb railway workers back in the early 20th Century. The blue home design has white stripes formed from railway tracks, while the wackier yellow away kit has a track motif stamped over an odd "cracked mud" graphic.

RB Leipzig third kit (Puma)

RB Leipzig unveiled a mind-boggling trippy purple-and-blue number that is slathered in a shimmering cascade of waves, dots and stars aplenty. It's a real humdinger -- with extra emphasis on the "hum."

Shamrock Rovers third kit (Macron)

Released several months back, Shamrock Rovers went with a rather grim and industrial yellow third kit for the 2026 League of Ireland season. It looks like painted concrete upon a factory wall, complete with a barrage of warning stripes that are presumably in place to alert people to stand well clear at all times.

Stoke City away kit (Macron)

Conceived as a tribute to the famous Spitfire fighter plane of World War II, Stoke thought it would be a good idea to drum up an era-appropriate military camouflage kit; perfect for stealthily ghosting in at the far post undetected by the opposition. Alas, it does add an extra unnecessary challenge to picking out your own teammates on muddy Championship pitches.

Southend United third kit (Errea)

Southend have sought to answer the age-old conundrum "How pink is too pink?" with an ultra bright, Day-Glo third kit that radiates so intensely we wouldn't be shocked to learn that it possesses a similar radioactive half-life to uranium.

Sporting Club Casablanca third kit (Nike)

Hailing from the Moroccan Women's Championship, Casablanca have abandoned their trusty blue, yellow and white club colors this season in favor of something a little more daring.

US Avellino third kit (Magma)

Covered in a pattern of dense foliage, Avellino's new third kit is an homage to the Irpinia forests of northern Italy and the wolves that live among them. The shirt is covered in an ornate naturalistic graphic that includes grapes, figs, stalks of wheat, and an image of a fearsome wolf itself, shrouded within the autumnal flora.

Viktoria Plzen away kit (Macron)

Oddly, we make this the third kit on the list that seems to be either directly or indirectly inspired by muddy fields. Indeed, the Plzen away jersey was actually introduced as an homage to the hard-working farmers and agricultural heritage of the club's particular region of Czechia. It's infamously tough to make a brown kit work, as is being ably demonstrated here.

Westchester SC third kit (Hummel)

Should any Westchester SC fans be struggling to make their way home after games, the club have provided the perfect solution. The new "Commuter" kit features a useful map of the local area's three MTA Metro-North train lines. Much handier than carrying a paper copy around with you all day.
