Hamburg have announced that defender Emir Spahic's contract has been terminated.
Spahic, 36, who joined Hamburg in the summer of 2015, was told in early January that he was no longer wanted at the Bundesliga club.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, however, rejected the offer to terminate his contract which was set to expire this summer, and instead filed a suit against the club at Hamburg's labour court.
But ahead of the court date set for Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. local time, Hamburg and Spahic reached a mutually agreed contract termination out of court when the defender signed an annulment contract.
"Today, we found a satisfying solution for both sides," Hamburg CEO Heribert Bruchhagen told club's official website.
The centre-back, who featured in 38 competitive matches for Hamburg, can now leave the club on a free transfer, but only into leagues where the transfer window is still open. This is the case in Major League Soccer, Switzerland, Russia, China, Japan and Brazil among other leagues.
