Kim mistake the difference as Mexico qualify for knockout stage -- as it happened

Mexico beat South Korea 1-0 to confirm their qualification into the round-of-32, the first side to do so at the FIFA World Cup 2026. South Korea remain in second place for now after the other sides in the group, Czechia and South Africa, drew 1-1 earlier.

Mexico dominated the early stages in Guadalajara before ceding control to South Korea and by the halftime whistle there was only one team in charge -- but a poor error from goalkeeper Kim Seung-Gim saw Luis Romo capitalise to score the only goal of the match soon after the restart.

South Korea continued to dominate possession (they had 58% overall) but could only take two shots on target: one was saved superbly by Raul Rangel, and the other was blocked in even more spectacular fashion by Johan Vazquez.
