Jitu Rai won the silver in the 10m air pistol event at the ISSF Shooting World Cup in Baku on Saturday with a score of 199.5 in the finals.
Brazillian Felipe Almeida Wu shot 200 to win gold while three-time Olympic Gold medalist, Jin Jongoh of South Korea, settled for bronze with a score of 178.8.
It was Rai's sixth World Cup medal. Earlier, he had finished tenth in qualification in the 50m pistol event in Baku.
Rai is widely seen as one of India's best bets to win a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Last September, he had become the first Indian shooter to earn a Rio quota after winning a silver at the World Championships in Spain.
In the women's 25m pistol event, Heena Sidhu finished eighth in the semifinal round by scoring six hits. The Rio-bound Sidhu, who was leading the rankings at the end of the precision round, scored an impressive 582, finishing fifth by the end of the qualifiers.
In the men's trap event, Ankur Mittal, Sangram Dahiya and Md. Asab displayed a commendable effort as they finished ninth, 14th and 15th respectively with scores of 137, 135 and 134. However, the top six shooters made the cut for the final round.
The World Cup in Baku is the last shooting tournament before the Olympics in August.
