L.A. Tenorio, the PBA's "Iron Man", added the Honda-PBA Press Corps Finals MVP to his still-growing collection of awards following Barangay Ginebra's Philippine Cup title win Wednesday.
Tenorio averaged 13.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.4 steals throughout the five-game series as he clinched his first All-Filipino title.
He logged 10 markers and dished out 6 dimes in the 82-78 victory, to help steer his team to the only title of the 45th PBA season.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone called Tenorio the driving force for Ginebra.
"It was special....he drove us throughout this whole tournament. More than the points or the shots, to me that is why he is our MVP of the bubble," Cone said. "Stanley was great. Stanley was Stanley. What else can you say? Stanley was Stanley. L.A. was our driving force, the leader. He was pushing for the championship the whole way."
Tenorio, who stretched his consecutive games record to 663, was on the verge of breaking his streak due to an appendectomy 13 days before the start of the PBA bubble in Pampanga.
However, Tenorio was about "30% of his game" when he first entered the bubble according to Cone, but his push for his teammates to strive for the team's first All-Filipino crown since 2007 was the ultimate force that pushed them over the edge.
"I just asked the Lord to give me an All-Filipino championship, but He gave me a bonus. Thank you, thank you. Thank you. First and foremost, I would like to thank the Lord for giving the whole team the strength, since we had so many things to endure inside the hubble. As all of you know, before Japeth and I entered [the bubble], we had endured a lot," Tenorio said.
