HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Coy Gibbs, son of NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs, will take a larger role with the race team as its new chief operating officer as part of a team executive leadership shuffle announced Thursday.
A former driver, Coy Gibbs had spent recent years heading up the Gibbs motocross team, JGRMX. Coy's brother, J.D., has been president of JGR but has battled the deterioration of brain function, including speech and processing issues. J.D. Gibbs will join his father as co-chairman of JGR.
Todd Meredith, who had been COO, is leaving the company. Chief marketing officer Dave Alpern has been named the team president.
The NFL Hall of Fame coach started JGR in 1992 and has won four Sprint Cup titles, including the 2015 title with Kyle Busch.
