NCAA recommends earlier start to football season

An NCAA committee recommended Thursday that Football Bowl Subdivision teams play a 12-game schedule over 14 weeks beginning in 2027 with the season starting on the Thursday of what is now designated Week 0.

Big news for Oklahoma football. A judge in Cleveland County, Okla., has granted Owen Heinecke a preliminary injunction, which will allow him to play at OU for the 2026 season. The NCAA had previously ruled against his waiver for a fifth year of eligibility. He had 40 tackles and three sacks for OU last season.
