QB Tommy Carr shows off the wheels on opening TD for Michigan (0:16)

True freshman Tommy Carr is making his first career start today for Michigan, and the Wolverine's starting debut couldn't have been timed any better.

Week 8 is Notre Dame's bye week, meaning Carr had a special spectator in attendance for the moment: his brother, star Irish signal-caller CJ Carr.

The elder Carr was spotted in the Big House boxes early on at Michigan's matchup with Indiana, bringing a prop no less -- a pair of binoculars to get a better view of his younger brother's particulars while he leads the Wolverines.

It's far from CJ's first time in the Big House. The Carr brothers are the progeny of Michigan royalty, with their grandfathers each being legends at the school. Their paternal grandfather Lloyd Carr won a national title as the Wolverines' head coach, while maternal grandfather Tom Curtis earned All-American honors in his playing days in Ann Arbor.

While CJ bucked family tradition and ended up at Notre Dame, Tommy flipped his commitment from Miami (OH) to Michigan in November 2025. He's wasted no time making an impact with the Wolverines, taking over as QB1 to help lead Michigan to a 21-18 win over Penn State last Saturday.

And now, for at least one week, the Carr family won't have to split their fandom attentions between Ann Arbor and South Bend.
