João Pedro is looking to "keep up the pace" after a strong start to the season at Chelsea to earn a regular place in Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad.
Ancelotti was in the stands at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to watch João Pedro, who started and scored in Chelsea's 4-3 win over Brighton. João Pedro, who was left out of Brazil's World Cup squad with Ancelotti opting to take more experienced forwards, has two goals and two assists in two league games this season.
"I try to do my job regardless of who is watching," João Pedro, 24, told ESPN after the game. "I always aim to maintain a high standard. As for the Brazilian national team, I want to carry on doing my job and, God willing, I'll be there."
João Pedro is happy with the progress he has made in recent years. The Brazilian forward joined the Blues in July 2025 from Brighton and was named Chelsea's Player of the Season after an impressive debut season in London with 20 goals and nine assists in 50 appearances.
"I think I've been proving this [good form] over the years," João Pedro said. "I got off to a good start last season, and this season too; now it's a case of keep up the pace, carrying on working hard and, God willing, finishing as high up the table as possible."

João Pedro has made eight appearances for Brazil since making his senior debut in 2023.
Eliminated by Norway in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup, Brazil will face Australia in an international friendly on Sept. 25.
