A few notes from around the boxing world:

• Top Rank has scrapped plans for a Sept. 26 pay-per-view card from Mexico, so super middleweight contender Gilberto Ramirez -- who was penciled in for one of the fights if the PPV had gone forward -- will instead headline a “Solo Boxeo Tecate” card on Oct. 9 (UniMas), possibly in Los Angeles, Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti told ESPN.com. The 24-year-old Ramirez (32-0, 24 KOs) will face an opponent to be named. Ramirez, of Mexico, is the mandatory challenger for titleholder Arthur Abraham, but that fight won’t take place until at least early 2016.

• Blue-chip featherweight prospect Oscar Valdez (16-0, 14 KOs) and former junior featherweight title challenger Chris Avalos (26-3, 19 KOs) will meet Sept. 11 (truTV) in a scheduled 10-rounder at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas in the main event of Top Rank’s “MetroPCS Friday Night Knockout” card, Moretti told ESPN.com. It’s a step up in competition for Valdez, 24, the two-time Mexican Olympian. Avalos, of Lancaster, California, is 25. In the opening 10-rounder, super middleweight prospect Jesse Hart (17-0, 14 KOs), 26, of Philadelphia, will face Aaron Pryor Jr. (19-8-1, 12 KOs), 37, of Cincinnati.

• David Sanchez (28-2-2, 22 KOs), of Mexico, will defend his interim junior bantamweight belt in his hometown of Hermosillo against former interim flyweight titleholder Luis Concepcion (32-4, 23 KOs), of Panama, on Sept. 19 (beIN Sports Espanol), Zanfer Promotions announced Thursday. "It's a fight that means a lot to me," Sanchez, 23, said at the news conference announcing the bout. “It will be a give-and-take fight. Concepcion is a great fighter, but we are preparing very well. I look for great things in boxing. I want to grow, to become someone as great as Julio Cesar Chavez, and I think we have what it takes to achieve it.” Concepcion, 29, is coming off a decision loss to junior bantamweight titlist Carlos Cuadras on April 4, ending a nine-fight winning streak since losing a flyweight world title fight to Hernan “Tyson” Marquez by first-round knockout in 2011. “I'm ready for anything,” Concepcion said. “In 2011, Marquez caught me cold. But I'm well-prepared to bring this title to my country.”
