You missed a fun reading last night.
First of all, in some small way, I'm glad you didn't come, because there wasn't any room. People were standing at the bar. People were standing in the hall. People were standing pretty much everywhere. The photos are great, but don't really express the way we successfully violated the fire code.
Some memorable moments: Dan Shanoff is writing a book, and read part of it about the first time he went on TV, when he made a series of bad dietary, fashion, makeup, and apparel decisions that resulted in one of the most tormented half hours of public misery one could possibly imagine. I'm getting nervous and sweaty just thinking about it. Hilarious stuff. By the way, I should point out that Dan was sporting the single greatest basketball blogger t-shirt ever.
(Also, did you know that Dan Shanoff founded the Varsity Letters series, before handing it over to Carl Bialik who deserves a medal for setting it up?)
Will Leitch is also writing a book about sports. It's due to his publisher really soon, which he seems more than a little stressed about. He read a chunk of it, and I'd love to tell you, based on that chunk, what the book is really like. But that chunk that he read? It was the glossary. No kidding.
Matt Ufford tried to make us all cry.
Jason Fry read this blog post, which touches on something I think about every day: when I write about the Blazers, I'm always tempted to say "we," but then try to remember to go back and change it to "they." As you'll read if you click that link, he thinks I should say "we" without apology.
Also, I was thrilled to see Peace Players International founder Sean Tuohey (who recently starred in this story of conflict resolution through basketball in Northern Ireland) who came by, as did the author who wrote that letter to LeBron James, Dax-Devlon Ross.
