Well, that's a wrap on today's first game! Make sure to join Madushka, who is already firing up the comms for the second match of this double-header. Time to sign off - on behalf of Harshith Gowda, this is Rashad Mahbub saying goodbye!

Bhanuka Rajapaksa: "Praise the Lord. Yeah, of course we are happy, because it's a nice space to be in. When you start winning, it becomes a habit. Hopefully, we've got a couple more games to play in Dambulla, and we can keep the same momentum going forward. [Areas you need to improve] Fielding standards can always be improved on. Batting-wise, I think today we got a bit of a slower start, but we know that we've got world-class openers. It was a new pitch as well, so we had to assess the conditions. Going forward, after seeing what happened today, we'll do much better."

Player of the Match: Chamindu Wickramasinghe

Shadow-Shell: "What's this guy doing at No.9? Also only bowled 2 overs despite being the most economical"

6:45 pm An early strike from the Kings saw Mathew shatter Hermann's stumps in just the second over of the run chase. Both openers were back in the hut before the powerplay was out, leaving the Kaps struggling to find any momentum at 37 for 3 after six overs. Shakib then struck right after the fielding restrictions lifted, picking up the key wicket of McDermott. Kamindu Mendis was the lone spark for the Kaps, looking in total control as he rotated the strike and found the boundaries with ease to bring up his fifty off 34 balls. However, Mathew returned to deliver another massive blow, getting Mendis caught at deep cover for 58. Just as Shanmuganathan began looking to free his arms, he was caught out at deep square leg. The Kings were exceptional in the field, taking every chance that came their way and keeping a tight leash on the run rate. Having made five changes to their lineup today, the Kaps looked sloppy; their batting unit failed to gel and their earlier lapses in the field ultimately came back to haunt them. Late fireworks from Rathnayake and Sahan only served to reduce the margin of defeat. Sahan remained unbeaten on 35 runs off 15 balls. It was a complete team performance in the field, led by Williams with three wickets, while Mathews and Madushanka chipped in with two apiece.
