Winston Churchill coins the phrase "Iron Curtain" in speech.
In one of the most famous speeches of the 20th century, Winston Churchill took the podium at Westminster College's gym in Fulton, Mo., and declared that an "iron curtain" had descended, cutting off Soviet-dominated Eastern Europe from the free world. He did not, however, comment on the Pinstripe Curtain the Evil Empire had drawn around the Bronx.
