Pirates add prospect Polanco to 40-man roster
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have added four players to the 40-man roster, including highly touted outfield prospect Gregory Polanco.
The Pirates also placed infielder Alen Hanson, left-handed starter Joely Rodriguez and right-handed starter Casey Sadler on the 40-man Wednesday.
Polanco is Pittsburgh's highest-rated prospect. He hit .285 with 30 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 71 RBIs and 38 stolen bases in 127 minor league games at three different levels of the system in 2013. Polanco is scheduled to start next season at Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates currently are in search of an everyday right fielder after Marlon Byrd opted to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies last week.
The Pirates agreed to terms with right-handers Collin Balester, Jake Brigham, Jay Jackson, Josh Kinney and Seth McClung on minor league contracts.
