Van Slyke, 2 pitchers sign minor league deals with Marlins
MIAMI -- Outfielder-first baseman Scott Van Slyke has signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins after spending the past six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Right-handed pitchers Jumbo Diaz, Javy Guerra and Tyler Cloyd and left-hander Mike Kickham also signed minor league deals with the Marlins. All five players received invitations to spring training.
Van Slyke batted .122 in 29 games last year. He's a career .242 hitter with 29 homers.
Diaz went 1-4 with a 5.70 ERA in 31 games as a relief pitcher for Tampa Bay last season. Guerra has a 2.99 ERA in 169 games of relief over a seven-year career with four teams, including the Marlins last year.
