Andre Smith is expected to be a top pick in the 2009 NFL Draft
Andre Smith is a former offensive tackle at Alabama and winner of the 2008 Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman in college football. Andre Smith chose to forgo his final year of eligibility at Alabama to enter the 2009 NFL Draft.

Andre Smith is 6-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 330 pounds. He lost 25 pounds prior to the 2007 season to increase his mobility.

Andre Smith joined in 2006, after a successful high school career at Huffman High School in Birmingham, AL. Smith was a first-team All-America selection as a senior and two-time All-State selection. In 2005, he was named Alabama's by the , becoming the only offensive lineman to ever win the honor. Among the class of 2006, Smith was the No. 1-ranked offensive tackle, and No. 4-ranked overall prospect, according to ESPN's Scouts Inc.

Andre Smith started immediately at Alabama, logging a team-high 831 snaps as a true freshman. He was only the 7th true freshman in Alabama history to start his , the first since 2003. Smith scored his only career touchdown on a lateral from quarterback in the Oklahoma State on Dec. 28.

As a sophomore, Andre Smith again started every game, and began to earn accolades for his skill on the offensive line. He was a co-winner of the SEC's Jacobs Blocking Trophy along with Arkansas's Jonathan Luigs and a 2007 Coaches First-Team All-SEC selection.

The honors continued to roll in for Andre Smith during his junior season, in which he helped Alabama to a 12-0 start before the Tide's loss in the SEC Championship Game. Smith became the 63rd receipient of the Outland Trophy, presented annually to college football's best offensive lineman or linebacker. Smith was the first Alabama winner since Chris Samuels earned the award in 1999. In addition, he was a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection by the The Sporting News, SEC head coaches and Phil Steele. Smith was named Alabama's Offensive Player of the Year. He started 12 games in 2008, missing only the Tulane game with sprained left knee. Overall, he played 38 games in his Alabama career.

Personal

Smith is the son of Andre Smith Sr. and Nesa Smith. His younger brother, Christian Smith, currently plays wide receiver and cornerback at Hampton University.
