If he's not the best and most celebrated college football player to ever play, Walker is certainly right in the middle of that conversation. He burst onto the scene in 1980 as a freshman and promptly led the Bulldogs to a national championship. He set the NCAA freshman rushing record that season and finished third in the Heisman Trophy balloting. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1982, and the Bulldogs also won their third straight SEC title. Walker left school early following the 1982 season to play in the USFL for the New Jersey Generals. When the USFL folded, he spent 12 seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles and Giants. Walker remains the SEC's all-time rushing leader with 5,259 yards. -- Chris Low

Herschel Walker
In his first game at Georgia, the Walker legend was born when he ran over Tennessee's Bill Bates near the goal line and scored to rally the Bulldogs, prompting Georgia play-by-play announcer Larry Munson to exclaim, "My God, a freshman!"

The Hall of Fame coach produced six SEC championships and one national title in his 25 years on the sideline.

Vince Dooley. No question. Herschel was great, no doubt. But his time was only 3 years at UGA. Dooley is the man who put UGA sports on the map.
