Big 12 recruiting scorecard

Here's the latest from the recruiting trail in the Big 12:

BAYLOR

Total commits: 13

ESPN 300 commits: 6

The latest: The Bears have their first official signee of 2016 in four-star QB Zach Smith, who signed his financial aid papers last week and will enroll in January. Coach Art Briles had this to say about his future passer after the paperwork was done: "I like who he is as a person first and foremost. He's a great person, a great leader and will be a great addition to our program. He's a great football player, a big guy -- 6-3 1/2 and 220 right now -- and has a big arm.”

IOWA STATE

Total commits: 5

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Cyclones will get Illinois WR Kendric Pryor in for an unofficial visit this month and an official visit this season. Pryor is also high on Wisconsin, Iowa, UConn and Miami (Ohio) at this point, but the Big Ten schools were primarily recruiting him to play defensive back. His preference for playing receiver should help ISU's chances.

KANSAS

Total commits: 10

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Jayhawks will take any extra help they can get this season, and their latest addition is an intriguing one. Former Miami DT Corey King joined the KU program last week and is eligible to play right away as a senior. King sat out last season due to injuries but did play in nine games as a redshirt freshman in 2012.

KANSAS STATE

Total commits: 9

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Wildcats already have their biggest target at running back on board, but RB Z'Quan Hogan is still hoping he's close to getting a K-State offer. The three-star talent from Norman, Oklahoma, does have offers from Arkansas State, Colorado State and a few more program but is hearing more and more from Bill Snyder's staff.

OKLAHOMA

Total commits: 10

ESPN 300 commits: 2

The latest: Oklahoma was one of 20 programs -- yes, 20 -- that made the initial cut for 2017 Texas linebacker Anthony Hines III, ESPN's No. 1 rated inside linebacker for the class of 2017. While trimming a list to 20 might sound pointless, Hines isn't even a junior year and already claims more than 75 offers. Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas were the other Big 12 schools in Hines' top 20.

OKLAHOMA STATE

Total commits: 12

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: Oklahoma State is getting ahead of the game with the 2018 class, extending an offer to OT Darrell Simpson. The DFW area lineman already had an offer from Kansas, too, and is hearing from Oklahoma, Michigan and Baylor before he even plays a down as a sophomore. Which makes sense, because's already 6-foot-7 and 310 pounds.

TCU

Total commits: 15

ESPN 300 commits: 5

The latest: ESPN 300 WR Stephen Sullivan has reopened his recruitment, and that could end up being very good news for TCU. The nation's No. 73 overall recruit backed out of his pledge to LSU this weekend and has reportedly taken several unofficial visits to TCU this summer. At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, Sullivan is a big target who could be a big-time steal for the Frogs.

TEXAS

Total commits: 8

ESPN 300 commits: 3

The latest: Texas is still locked in a head-to-head battle with TCU for four-star OG Denzel Okafor, who's reportedly planning to make his decision this month. Okafor is one of the top uncommitted lineman in Texas, and while TCU might have a slight edge as the first program that offered him, Texas is also selling him on a chance to play early and beef up a line that needs depth.

TEXAS TECH

Total commits: 25

ESPN 300 commits: 0

The latest: Lubbock is becoming a popular destination for transfers these days. The Red Raiders' latest addition is former Notre Dame DE Kolin Hill. He made his pledge to Tech public this weekend after a recent visit. Hill played in nine games as a true freshman for the Irish, but he hails from the San Antonio area and will get to play closer to home at Tech. Hill must sit out this season as a transfer.

WEST VIRGINIA

Total commits: 18

ESPN 300 commits: 1

The latest: The Mountaineers' latest pledge came from CB Jacob Long, who elected to flip from Purdue to WVU last week after taking an unofficial visit. Long hails from Ohio and brings nice size to the position at nearly 6-foot-2. Ohio State and Michigan State had reportedly begun showing interest in Long lately.
