Less than two weeks before its opener, TCU lost a key piece, as punt returner Cameron Echols-Luper announced he was leaving the team.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Echols-Luper interestingly is headed to Arkansas State so he he can play quarterback.
Echols-Luper was one of the top specialists in the league last season. He finished second only to Kansas State's Tyler Lockett in yards per punt return (10.6). He also had a TD in TCU's comeback win at Kansas.
Though strange, this isn't the end of the world for TCU. Echols-Luper was a fine returner, but the Horned Frogs have other athletes.
Safety Derrick Kindred, receiver Deante' Gray and cornerback Ranthony Texada could be in the mix. According to the Star-Telegram, freshman KaVontae Turpin could be, too.
