UCLA kicks off spring practice

There's a unique type of intrigue that accompanies an unsettled quarterback competition. UCLA fully immerses itself in that mystery today, as the Bruins kick off spring practice and the open race to replace Brett Hundley.

Jerry Neuheisel and early enrollee Josh Rosen are the frontrunners for the job; Asantii Woulard is also in the mix. Their battle should serve as the headline attraction of spring practice, but several more nuances have piqued Chris Foster's interest. The absence of offensive line coach Adrian Klemm (suspended while alleged NCAA violations are investigated) and the insertion of new defensive coordinator Tom Bradley are just two of his watch-worthy picks.

The development of the Bruins' defense is particularly interesting because Bradley operated a 4-3 scheme at Penn State, his previous job. UCLA has been recruiting to fit the 3-4 mold, so the new defensive coordinator must find a way to mesh with his new personnel this spring. A preview of that effort can be found here.

The Bruins' special teams unit also resumes work this morning. Bruins Nation prepared an outlook of their 2015 prospects, while Go Joe Bruin's video discussion preview of spring provides yet more perspective on UCLA's return to the practice field.
