The wait is finally over as the 2026-27 NBA season tips off, promising another thrilling campaign filled with superstar showdowns, championship aspirations and unforgettable moments.
With the world's best basketball players once again battling for supremacy, Filipino fans have plenty to look forward to as the league's biggest names take center stage.
From established legends seeking further glory to emerging talents ready to make their mark, the new season promises no shortage of compelling storylines -- and fans in the Philippines can catch all the action on ESPN on Disney+.
Among the biggest questions heading into the season is whether the New York Knicks can defend their crown.
Having ended their long wait for a title, the Knicks are determined to prove their triumph was no one-off, with Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and a talented supporting cast -- including the Philippines' very own Jordan Clarkson -- returning for another championship push.
Standing in their way will be a formidable Oklahoma City Thunder side led by reigning two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, alongside Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, as they look to reclaim the crown they won in 2025.
Few players will command more attention than Luka Dončić, who enters another season as the face of the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Slovenian superstar looking to turn his extraordinary individual brilliance into championship success, the Lakers will once again be among the league's most closely watched teams.
Meanwhile, LeBron James begins a fascinating new chapter with the Philadelphia 76ers, setting up the prospect of an emotional Christmas Day reunion with the Lakers.
Stephen Curry will also be looking to keep the Golden State Warriors competitive, with his remarkable ability continuing to make him one of basketball's must-watch attractions -- even if he, like James, is now in the twilight of his career.
Another player poised to dominate headlines is Victor Wembanyama, whose rapid rise has transformed the San Antonio Spurs into genuine championship contenders. After leading San Antonio to the NBA Finals last season, the French sensation will be determined to go one step further, backed by an exciting young supporting cast.
Elsewhere, three-time MVP Nikola Jokić remains the driving force behind the Denver Nuggets, while Giannis Antetokounmpo embarks on a new adventure with the Miami Heat.
With established superstars and ambitious young challengers across both conferences, the battle for NBA supremacy looks as unpredictable as ever.
