Before the Buffalo Bills switch gears this week for joint practices with the Pittsburgh Steelers, let's circle back on the Bills' Friday night preseason win over the Carolina Panthers.
Here is a breakdown of the offensive snaps, grouped by the order in which players entered the game on offense:
Offensive line
LT Seantrel Henderson -- 44 of 66 (starter)
LG Chris Williams -- 44 of 66 (starter)
C Eric Wood -- 25 of 66 (starter)
RG Kraig Urbik -- 34 of 66 (starter)
RT Erik Pears -- 44 of 66 (starter)
RG Cyril Richardson -- 22 of 66 (entered in first quarter)
C Doug Legursky -- 24 of 66 (entered in second quarter)
LG Antoine McClain -- 20 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
RT Cyrus Kouandjio -- 22 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
LT Chris Hairston -- 22 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
C Macky MacPherson -- 17 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
RG J.J. Unga -- 13 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
LG Jared Wheeler -- 2 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
LT Edawn Coughman -- 0 of 66 (injured/did not play)
Quick-hit thoughts: Wood, a team captain and a fixture in the middle of the line, came out of the game in the second quarter while the other four starters played through the first half. Richardson and Urbik rotated at right guard, with Urbik even seeing time in the third quarter. Unga's late-game entrance is notable, as it appears he's slipped behind Urbik and McClain since the end of last season.
Quarterbacks
EJ Manuel -- 25 of 66 (starter)
Thad Lewis -- 24 of 66 (entered in second quarter)
Jeff Tuel -- 15 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
Dennis Dixon -- 2 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
Quick-hit thoughts: After Tuel ran with the second team in the Hall of Fame game, Lewis got his turn with that unit Friday. We'll give the early edge to Tuel, but a lot can still happen in the final three preseason games.
Running backs
C.J. Spiller -- 12 of 66 (starter)
Fred Jackson -- 13 of 66 (entered in first quarter)
Bryce Brown -- 24 of 66 (entered in second quarter)
Anthony Dixon -- 17 of 66 (entered in second quarter)
Ronnie Wingo -- 0 of 66 (did not play)
Quick-hit thoughts: Heavier workload for Brown and Dixon, who may be battling for a spot on the 46-man game-day roster this season. Wingo's zero line is notable given that the top four backs will see even more playing time as the preseason continues. He was on the 53-man roster at the end of last season.
Fullbacks
Frank Summers -- 11 of 66 (starter)
Evan Rodriguez -- 17 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
Quick-hit thoughts: Summers is the clear front-runner in the battle to be the offense's lead blocker. Rodriguez may have an uphill battle for a roster spot.
Wide receivers
Sammy Watkins -- 16 of 66 (starter)
Mike Williams -- 17 of 66 (starter)
Chris Hogan -- 24 of 66 (entered in first quarter)
Robert Woods -- 32 of 66 (entered in first quarter)
Marquise Goodwin -- 12 of 66 (entered in second quarter)
Marcus Easley -- 14 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
T.J. Graham -- 9 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
Kevin Elliott -- 6 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
Chris Summers -- 11 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
Tori Gurley -- 6 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
Caleb Holley -- 2 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
Naaman Roosevelt -- 0 of 66 (special teams only)
Quick-hit thoughts: Continuing to see a separation between Williams, who was on the sideline by the second quarter, and Woods, who played through the first half. With Hogan subbing into the slot with the first-team offense, it's hard not to call Woods the No. 4 receiver at this point. He'll continue to have opportunities to change that, but it's a bit of a fall from where he ended last season.
Tight ends
Lee Smith -- 19 of 66 (starter)
Scott Chandler -- 19 of 66 (entered in first quarter)
Chris Gragg -- 18 of 66 (entered in second quarter)
Dominique Jones -- 10 of 66 (entered in third quarter)
Tony Moeaki -- 11 of 66 (entered in fourth quarter)
Quick-hit thoughts: Moeaki's entrance in the fourth quarter sticks out. He didn't practice last week, so the Bills may have been trying to protect him -- and ease him back in -- by using him late in the game. Still, his roster spot isn't a sure bet or else we'd have probably seen him held out of the game entirely.
