Cameron Turner named Panthers' wide receivers assistant

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera continued to tweak his coaching staff on Wednesday, naming Cameron Turner an assistant wide receivers coach.

Turner will fill a void left on the staff when senior offensive assistant John Ramsdell recently retired.

Turner is the son of Florida International coach Ron Turner and the nephew of Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner. He spent the past two seasons working for his father.

Turner began his coaching career in 2010 at his alma mater, The Citadel, in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was a quarterback and then a wide receiver. There he coached wide receivers and assisted with special teams.

Turner’s first NFL job came with Minnesota, where he was an assistant to coach Leslie Frazier from 2011-12.

Turner served as a liaison between the coaching staff and other staff members, as well as NFL officials. He also managed logistics, coordinating schedules and the team’s travel itinerary.

This is the second staff change for Rivera since the season ended. He recently re-assigned special teams coach Richard Rodgers to a defensive assistant and elevated Bruce DeHaven to special teams coach.
