I just got a look at the details of the five-year contract extension quarterback Matt Ryan signed with the Atlanta Falcons last week.
The Falcons actually freed up salary-cap room for 2013 with the new deal. The Falcons are $7.7 million under this year’s cap.
Ryan received a $28-million signing bonus. He’ll make $2 million in base salary this year and his cap figure is $9.6 million.
In 2014, Ryan will make $9.5 million in base salary and have a $17.5 million cap figure. In 2015, the base salary is $11.5 million and the cap figure is $19.5 million.
In 2016, Ryan’s base salary will be $15.75 million and his cap figure will be $23.75 million. Those numbers stay exactly the same in 2017. In 2018, the base salary is $19.25 million and the cap figure is $21.65 million.
