EARTH CITY, Mo. -- To fill the roster spot created by releasing linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong, the St. Louis Rams are apparently signing veteran linebacker Will Herring. At least, that's what Herring tweeted to the world Tuesday night.
Thankful to be joining the Rams Nation!! Time to work!

In Herring, the Rams replace the young and often unpredictable Armstrong with a steady 31-year old veteran. After releasing Armstrong, the Rams had just four linebackers on the roster and needed to add depth and someone who can contribute on special teams. Herring fits both bills and brings the added bonus of having played for Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in New Orleans in 2011.
Originally a fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2007, Herring spent four seasons in Seattle before moving on to New Orleans for the past three years. He was the Saints' special-teams captain last year, finishing with 12 special-teams tackles, a forced fumble and an interception.
The majority of Herring's experience has come on special teams but he has chipped in on defense along the way. For his career, he has 92 tackles, a sack, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 97 games.
Herring agreed to a deal with Dallas in March but the Cowboys apparently backed off for fear of injury.
