Stephanie Han earned a controversial majority decision over Holly Holm in their rematch to retain the WBA women's lightweight title on Saturday and remain No. 3 in the ESPN divisional rankings. Holm appeared to make all the proper adjustments in the later rounds to win the fight. However, the judges scored the bout 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95 for Han, and Holm is now 0-2 against her. Holm fought far better than in their January meeting and used combination punching and movement to own the second half of the fight. Her spirited performance earned her the No. 5 spot in the rankings.
Also on Saturday, Desley Robinson nearly finished Mary Spencer twice in retaining her unified middleweight titles with a wide unanimous decision. Robinson pitched a near shutout on the scorecards behind her accurate, powerful punching and ring generalship. Robinson maintains the top spot in the middleweight rankings.
Amanda Serrano tied Christy Martin's knockout record by blitzing Cheyenne Hanson and earning a second-round stoppage. Serrano's 32nd knockout came with relative ease as she stormed Hanson from the opening bell and overwhelmed her with volume punching. The unified featherweight champion tightened her grip on the No. 1 spot in the division.
Rankings are updated every Tuesday. They're based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven't fought in 18 months and don't have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
