NEW YORK, April 12 - George Hincapie will not need surgery on the separated shoulder he sustained in a crash during the Paris-Roubaix race, Discovery Channel team officials said on Wednesday.

Hincapie was found to have a third-degree separation of his right shoulder as well as a severely bruised wrist after being examined by doctors on Tuesday in Greenville, South Carolina.

His shoulder will be taped and placed in a sling until he can resume riding.

"I was happy to hear that I will not need surgery," Hincapie said in a statement from his home in Greenville.

"I will be off the bike for about a week but look forward to resuming my training."

The 32-year-old Tour de France stage winner expected to be in form for his next scheduled race, the Dauphine Libere, which begins on June 4.
