Rangers, Padres swap minor leaguers

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres and Rangers swapped minor leaguers on Thursday, with San Diego getting infielder Vince Sinisi and right-hander John Hudgins, and the Rangers obtaining outfielder Freddy Guzman and right-hander Cesar Rojas.

Guzman will report to Triple-A Oklahoma and Rojas will continue with extended spring training.

Hudgins and Sinisi will report to Double-A Mobile.

Guzman was hitting .274 with two home runs and 14 RBIss for Triple-A Portland. He missed the entire 2005 season after injuring his elbow in a spring training game, requiring reconstructive surgery.

He played in 20 big league games for the Padres in 2004.

Rojas has been in extended spring training since the start of the season. He pitched for rookie-level Peoria in 2005.

Sinisi batted .271 with 16 RBIss combined for Oklahoma and Double-A Frisco this season.

Hudgins was 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA for Oklahoma.

Game notes
The Rangers fired Triple-A Oklahoma manager Tim Ireland following an 11-22 start that dropped the RedHawks into last place in the Pacific Coast League's American Southern Division. Ireland was replaced by Mike Boulanger, and Wayne Kirby was named hitting coach. Ireland had served seven games of a 10-game suspension for arguing with umpires on May 3. He was in his fifth season in the Rangers organization and first as Triple-A manager.
