Young wings USTA 18-and-under singles after opponent withdraws

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Donald Young of Atlanta won the U.S. Tennis Association 18-and-under nationals for the second consecutive year after opponent Jesse Levine couldn't play because of food poisoning Sunday.

Levine, the No. 2 seed of Boca Raton, Fla., told the Kalamazoo Gazette he received two bags of intravenous fluids Sunday morning and felt better, but not well enough to play in the championship.

Young, the top-seeded player, earned a wild card into the U.S. Open singles main draw.

Third-seeded Timothy Smyczek, of Hales Corners, Wis., beat No. 4 seed Marcus Fugate, of Fairport, N.Y., 7-5, 6-4, for third place.

In the 16 singles championship, Brennan Boyajian, of Weston, Fla., beat Ryan Thacher, of Studio City, Calif., 7-5, 2-6, 7-6. Adam El Mihdawy of Long Island City, N.Y., beat Alexander Domijan, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., 7-6, 6-3 for third.
