MacInnis has eye surgery

ST. LOUIS -- Blues captain Al MacInnis had eye surgery Friday and will miss at least Saturday's game against the Washington Capitals.

St. Louis general manager Larry Pleau said he had not yet talked to the doctors, but planned to provide an update before Saturday's game.

"I'm not going to discuss anything," Pleau said. "Nobody's told me yet what the doctors have done."

Pleau said he had no idea how long MacInnis might be out.

The 40-year-old MacInnis previously injured his left eye on Jan. 27, 2001. He missed more than 20 games after he was hit on the eye with a high stick by San Jose's Scott Hannan. MacInnis sustained a lacerated eyelid, a corneal abrasion, damage to the eye lens and blood in the eye chamber at that time.

It was not clear when MacInnis' latest eye problems began.

MacInnis played Thursday in the Blues' 4-1 loss at Nashville.

The Blues recalled defenseman Aris Brimanis from the Worcester Ice Cats of the AHL to replace MacInnis.

MacInnis, a 13-time All-Star who began his career in 1981, led all NHL defensemen in scoring last season with 68 points.
