Roland Seidler, former Dodgers board member, dies at 77
LOS ANGELES - Roland Seidler, a member of the family that formerly owned the Los Angeles Dodgers and founder of the California investment firm The Seidler Companies, has died. He was 77.
Seidler died Thursday, according to his late father-in-law's organization, the Walter O'Malley Foundation. A cause of death wasn't released.
In 1958, Seidler married Terry O'Malley, the daughter of Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley and sister of former Dodgers president Peter O'Malley. Seidler held several positions within the Dodgers organization, including membership on the board of directors and treasurer, from 1975 until the team was sold in 1998.
"Our entire family is greatly saddened by the loss of Rollie," Peter O'Malley said in the statement. "Rollie was not only my very close friend and business associate, but a 'brother' in every sense of the word."
A Los Angeles native, Seidler graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, before starting in 1969 the Seidler Companies, an investment banking and financial services firm.
He served on several corporate and educational boards, including Mellon West, New York Stock Exchange Boards of Arbitration and Hearing, UCLA's Anderson School of Management and the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Finance Council.
He is survived by his wife, Terry, 10 children and 21 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mayo Clinic for diabetes research, the Catholic Education Foundation, or the Bioethics Institute at Loyola Marymount University.
