Senators re-sign G Emery
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators retained part of their future Thursday, re-signing goaltender Ray Emery to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
A fourth-round pick in 2001, Emery made his NHL debut in 2002-03, going 1-0-0 with a 1.41 goals-against average in three relief appearances. The 22-year-old made his first start on March 21, 2004 against Atlanta, turning aside 14 shots in a 5-1 victory.
Emery, who is 3-0-0 with a 1.99 GAA in six career games with the Senators, was named Canadian Major Junior Goaltender of the Year in 2002, when he went 33-17-9 with four shutouts and a 2.73 GAA for Sault-Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League.
In three seasons with Binghamton of the American Hockey League, Emery was named to the 2003 All-Rookie Team and appeared in the 2003 and 2004 All-Star Games.
