PHOENIX -- Former NFL lineman Luis Sharpe faces up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to four drug charges on Friday.

Sharpe, 47, played for the St. Louis and Arizona Cardinals from 1982-94 and was a three-time Pro Bowl selection.

He has been plagued by drug problems since 1995 and spent several months in prison after a drug conviction in 2000. He also was sentenced to 2½ years in prison in 2004 on other drug charges.

Sharpe pleaded guilty Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court to charges stemming from separate arrests for possessing crack cocaine in July and November of 2007 and February 2008.

Sharpe is scheduled to be sentenced May 9 and the county Attorney's Office said he faces a maximum of six years in prison along with probation.
