Texans sign Ward, waive Henry, Johnson and Booty
HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans signed running back Derrick Ward and released backs Chris Henry and Jeremiah Johnson and quarterback John David Booty on Saturday.
The moves were part of the Texans' final cuts to trim their roster to 53 players by the deadline.
Ward, released by Tampa Bay on Tuesday, worked out for the Texans on Friday. He rushed for 1,025 yards for the New York Giants in 2008, but only 409 yards for the Buccaneers last season.
Houston placed receiver Andre Davis (hip) on injured reserve and put tight end Anthony Hill on the physically unable to perform list.
Also cut were fullback Jack Corcora; tight end Derek Fine; linebackers Isaiah Greenhouse and Will Patterson; offensive linemen Brett Helms, Steve Maneri, Cole Pemberton, Adam Stenavich and Chris White; receivers Derrick Townsel and Bobby Williams; defensive linemen DelJuan Robinson, Malcolm Sheppard and Mitch Unrein; cornerback Mark Parson and safety Torri Williams.
